Weigel Broadcasting’s Challenges
Weigel Broadcasting Co. is combining traditional business with new opportunities. Their focus is on local terrestrial TV stations—currently operating in 16 markets, including their legacy Chicago, Illinois; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and South Bend, Indiana markets—and national digital networks, commonly referred to as diginets, specifically those that are entertainment-based networks. Acquisition of local stations is one of the ways Weigel Broadcasting enters new markets, which sometimes requires strengthening signal coverage. Solid partnerships, like with American Tower, are key to their expansion strategy.
